"In water one sees one’s own face,
but in wine one beholds the heart of another.”
~Old French Proverb
(A favorite wine quote of Founder David Hardee)
Originally, we purchase our grapes from some of the best vineyards on California’s Central Coast in order to create wines that exemplify their own unique flavors, as well as those of their terrior. Our aim is to produce wines from fantastic vineyard sites, with a focus on Rhône grape varietals such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Viognier. In 2006 we purchased an 83-acre walnut ranch on the Westside of Paso Robles, pulled out the old walnut trees and planted 23 acres of grapes. Today nearly all of our wine is made from estate fruit, taking our wines to the next level.
Our white wines are made from grapes that originated in the Rhône Valley in southern France: Viognier (pronounced Vee-on-yay) and Grenache Blanc, and use them to make our flagship white wine, Viognier.
Taking our cue from the Rhône Valley in France, some of our most exciting wines are inspired from traditional blends of Viognier, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah grapes. We give these wines names - Clairvoyant, Sibylline, and Syrah 7 Percent.
We are very proud of our unique and distinct grapes from our estate vineyard and we are very careful in the winery to preserve varietal character.
We consider all of our wines to be of reserve quality; hence we do not call any of them reserve wines. Each year we make our core group of wines, but in certain years, we make special wines like our Late Harvest Viognier and Grenache Blanc.
