Jody’s review:

We teamed up with our friends Joe and Beta for a night out at Patrick’s Side Street Café. Since we’d just finished two hours of Carina Cellars Tasting Room renovations, this dinner called for some serious wine drinking. Patrick’s is one of our favorites and you can usually find CT and I there enjoying a glass of wine with Chef or splurging on an elaborate gourmet dinner.

During the summer Patrick has his back patio open, but the nights are cooling off so we opted for a table inside where we can enjoy our food and Patrick’s eclectic mix of music (if you are there late enough he will blast Talking Heads). Appetizers were in order, so we started off with some of Patrick’s newest additions, goat cheese prawns and ahi poke, both of which were absolutely fabulous. For this first course we decided to finish off a bottle of 2003 Iconoclast, our signature blend, and not yet released. Next we moved on to our main course, which consisted of the ribeye steak for Joe and CT, the lamb loin for Beta, and the paprika spiced halibut for yours truly. For this course we decided on our 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon and our 2004 “7 Percent.” This was a dinner of epic wine connoisseur magnitude!

Patrick had just made his famous house spun spring mint ice cream with dutch chocolate sauce, so of course that was on the table for dessert, along with the mini banoffee pie, and the chocolate malted custard. But this wasn’t the end of the night. Patrick decided to open something special and we all shared a bottle of Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon. Then when the last couple had left, we turned up the Talking Heads.

And this, my friends, is the exact equation for the epicurean bliss that is the Santa Ynez Valley: good eats, good drinks, good friends.
