Our Estate Vineyard & Winery - Rancho del Cielo

For all of you who love visiting our Tasting Room in Los Olivos, there is now another NEW location to enjoy Carina Cellars Wines! That’s right, our New Paso Robles facility is now open for tastings on the weekends, Friday-Sunday from 11am-5pm! Or you can call Ryan for a tasting appointment - 415-309-2046.

"This area enjoys unique soils and climate, and has a larger diurnal swing than any other appellation in California, which results in an unusually wide range of microclimates. This allows winemakers a broad palate of wine components from which to blend deep complexity. The calcareous and chalky, rock soils are also unusual to California and are reminiscent of the esteemed Châteauneuf du Pâpe area of France. These conditions are perfect for grapes, as it challenges the vines to produce small berry clusters of marvelously concentrated grapes." Wine Country This Week Read the full article here.

David Hardee and Joey Tensley, both of whom have traveled the great wine regions of the world, have always recognized that Paso Robles produces exceptional fruit. In 2005 Carina Cellars began sourcing some fruit from the area. When the wines produced turned out to be very unique and special, the hunt was on to acquire a vineyard site that had the potential of producing some of the finest Rhone wines made in California. After looking at over 30 properties, David found what he has since named Rancho del Cielo, or Ranch of the Sky. This is an 83 acre parcel, located 4 miles west of Paso Robles, 12 miles directly east of Hearst Castle, and 3 miles east of Tablas Creek. The elevation starts at 1475 feet and rises steeply to 1925 feet, hence the name Rancho del Cielo. The top vineyard will be one of the highest vineyards along coastal California.

In the spring of 2007, 16 acres of grapes were planted, including Syrah, Grenache, Mouvedre and Viognier, grape varieties that Carina Cellars fans will be quick to recognize. The first harvest of this estate fruit was in the fall of 2009. The wines thus produced promise to be exceptional in quality and terroir.

Fall of 2008 marked the completion of our new winery and tasting room at the ranch, and in Summer 2009 the infinity pool at the top of the property was completed and is ready for some wine & pool parties!
